Meet our Team

  • It is my honor to serve this community, and serve as the Pastor of Calvary Lutheran Church since the Spring of 2009. My wife Penny, is my best friend and my closest partner in ministry and life. God has blessed us with 30 years of marriage, and some incredible adventures together. Our kids are grown and married, and we enjoy our time with them and our grandchildren. The mission of our church family, is also our own personal mission to live each day: Loving, Learning and Living. I look forward to the opportunity to tell you more about this mission, and even better yet, to show you.

  • Ben Vineyard

    Associate Pastor

My experience with Calvary began with an unassuming lunch at Piezano’s Pizza back in 2010. A pastor friend wanted me to meet Pastor Jake, Penny, and Grace as I wrestled with the direction God would have me serve. That conversation turned my view of ministry and discipleship upside down. After a couple years of still trying to keep ministry clean-cut and relatively noninvasive in my life, I found myself back in Nebraska tugged toward that messy and inefficient ministry I heard about over pizza. Currently, God has led me to live that out through bi-vocational ministry. I farm south of town with my dad, raising corn and soybeans. The parables of Jesus come alive through work as a farmer, and I see God’s faithfulness proven countlessly through the quiet miracles that result in food for the world. When farm work is lighter, I have the opportunity to serve at Calvary in a variety of contexts. I invite you to visit Calvary and join disciples of Jesus from all walks of life.

  • Vanessa Seifert

    Discipleship Catalyst

My husband, Brandon, and I experienced Calvary in 2012 when we first moved to Lincoln. I encountered God's presence and a community of people that welcomed me to join the journey of life together as Jesus' disciples.

I am a bi-vocational DCE called through Calvary to the city of Lincoln and beyond. My marketplace ministry happens through Leadership Resources where I am responsible for coaching emerging leaders and facilitating leadership development processes and workshops for growing companies in Lincoln.

I serve Calvary as DCE-Discipleship Catalyst as I team with Calvary staff and leadership to provide resources and practical opportunities that encourage and create a discipleship culture, that all would clearly see that all of life is faith and all of faith is life.

I completed my Ph.D. in 2013 after studying how individuals un-learn and re-learn habits of thought that lead to a new mindset and new behavioral outcomes. My research was born out of the observation that faith integration requires a new mindset in many cases. I wanted to learn how leaders help and guide God's people to new ways of thinking and being in order to integrate faith to everyday life. I have the privilege of continuing this learning in a practical way as our Calvary family seeks to allow God to guide us into new ways of thinking and being that align with his will for our lives. I look forward to meeting you.
